Hoover Recalls 108,000 Upright WindTunnel Vacuums.
07/17/10 5:38PM

Vacuuming is an onerous enough chore without having to worry if the vacuum itself will shock or burn you or your home furnishings. That's what happened to owners of a Hoover vacuum that was just recalled. Three reported minor burns to carpet and furniture and one reported a minor burn to the hand. As a result, Hoover has recalled 108,000 WindTunnel T-Series bagless upright vacuum cleaners with the cord rewind feature.

It's the power cord that poses the hazard—it's not properly routed or securely seated in the cord rewind assembly and can be pulled loose. This poses fire and shock hazards. Model numbers included in the recall are UH70110, UH70120, UH70200, UH70205 and UH70210 followed by a manufacture code of HO9A, O9A, JO9A or KO9A. The model number and manufacturing code can be found on a label on the lower rear part of the vacuum cleaner.

Made in Mexico, the vacuums were sold at mass merchandisers, department stores and independent vacuum retailers nationwide and online from August 2009 through May 2010 for between $100 and $160. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is telling consumers to stop using the affected vacuum cleaners and contact Hoover for a free repair at (888) 891-2054.
